Dear Bob and Ann,
Thank you for attending the 26th Annual Catholic Foundation Award Dinner. I am happy that you enjoyed yourselves. We are very proud of the tradition The Catholic Foundation has created through the annual award. Past honorees include many dedicated individuals and institutions, and we are pleased that we were able to honor them and their work.
Your question about nominees for the award and the eventual selection of an honoree is good and, believe it or not, one we are not asked very often. There are many individuals who deserve to be recognized and it is always a difficult choice for the foundation. The nomination and selection process takes place each Spring and nominations are solicited from many different individuals within the community. Trustees, former trustees, past honorees, Advisory Council members and many others are invited to nominate individuals they think should be recognized for their dedication and service to the Catholic community, but anyone can nominate an individual if they wish. Once the nominations have been received, a special committee comprised of current trustees meets to select the honoree. As you might expect, they take their task very seriously. Trying to select an honoree from among nominees that all deserve to be honored is very challenging, but the committee always manages to make an excellent choice.
In bestowing the award, The Catholic Foundation’s hope is that through the example of our honoree that many will be encouraged to make a difference in the lives of others. That is certainly our hope for the Foundation. God Bless.Sincerely,
Edwin M. Schaffler
