Scholarships

The Catholic Foundation provides significant support to several Catholic and other schools, including tuition funding for a number scholarship students. We also have the capacity to establish scholarship funds in a donor's name, for a particular school, or for uniquely qualified students, and to make grants accordingly.

Work of Heart Award

The Work of Heart Award Program is an example of a special program created in partnership with The Catholic Foundation by a donor who wanted to achieve a particular charitable purpose.  Anonymously established by a family dedicated to Catholic education, the Work of Heart Award Program used the resources, expertise and creativity of The Catholic Foundation to create a designated fund to recognize the teachers, administrators and staff of Catholic lower, middle, and high schools in the Diocese of Dallas.

    Information about how to nominate individuals for a Work of Heart Award

    The Catholic Foundation has renewed the Work of Heart program for the 2010-2011 school year. The award, now funded by a grant from The Catholic Foundation, was originally created in 2005 by a generous anonymous Dallas family. Now in its fifth year, the Work of Heart program has made over 400 awards to deserving Catholic educators, administrators, and employees.

    Each month up to twenty $500 awards are given out Work of Heart is looking for “the unsung heroes” who are going the “extra mile” in serving our educational community and its members. The family and The Catholic Foundation encourages participation from all parts of our Catholic community.

    The details of the award are:

    1) All nominations should be no more than one page and submitted in writing to The Catholic Foundation. The nominations should be addressed to “Work of Heart” and sent to The Catholic Foundation, 5310 Harvest Hill, Suite 248, Dallas, Texas, 75230; or you can fax to 972-661-0140 or email workofheart@catholicfoundation.com.

    2) Nominations can be submitted on an on-going basis; all nominations will be retained for consideration throughout the 2010-2011 school year.

    3) Nomination letters need to identify the nominee, their position at the school and clearly state the reasons why the individual is being nominated. Name, phone number and relationship of the person making the nomination must also be included.

    4) Nominations can be submitted by teachers, administrators, staff, chancery employees, students, parents, families, and anyone interested in Catholic education and the well being of our schools. Candidates may not be nominated by relatives.

    5) The criteria for the award include:

    • Additional merit including tenure and leadership
    • Enthusiastic instruction
    • Individual unexpected acts of kindness or charity
    • Christian example
    • Mentoring
    • Going the extra mile for an individual student, family or the community.

Grant Application

Elements of the Application include:  A project description, project cost, signatures of the church pastor, school principal, or agency head; a narrative description of the organization, a specific funding request, the budget for the project, including bids and proposals; and a list of all sources of income for the project. The grant application will also include the organization's most recent financial report, current operating budget, list of board of directors or parish finance council, a copy of the most recent IRS letter, and, in some instances, two competitive bids or proposals for purchases of computer or other major equipment.

Applications are processed two times a year – Thursday, January 26th and Thursday, August 23th in 2012– but may be submitted at any time.  Applications must be completed in accordance with the form below, and submitted in triplicate, including all attachments.
