Catholic Foundation Employee, Neighbors, Collect Food & Funds For Local Ministry
Rising to the challenge, a Catholic Foundation employee, Sylvia Windham, and her family participated in a massive food drive with their Canyon Creek Home Owner Association (HOA) in Richardson to feed North Texans.
Last weekend, Sylvia, the Bilingual Gift Processing Coordinator, and her neighbors collected 14,000 pounds of food and the CC HOA donated $10,000 in cash for a local non-profit in Richardson called Network of Community Ministries (Network), a spring 2019 recipient of a Catholic Foundation grant. The grant, partially funded by the Bernard (Brian) Bradley Endowment Fund, helped Network obtain a new refrigerated mobile food truck.
The Canyon Creek HOA is comprised of 2,850 homes and was inspired to help Network because of the local impact the non-profit has made in the area that encompasses 14 zip codes in Dallas and the Richardson ISD.
Mobile Food Truck
Network of Community Ministries’ new refrigerated mobile food truck hit the streets last summer as the faith-based, non-denominational nonprofit mobile food pantry program in partnership with the Richardson Independent School District. Network provides food, clothing, utilities, medical, dental, job assistance, rent and income support to nearly 9,000 individuals annually.
Since the launch of their refrigerated food program, Network has provided thousands of pounds of food on a monthly basis for qualifying students and their families, and established special programs to assist those impacted by last fall’s tornadoes and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our hearts are so full of gratitude to be part of such an amazing outpouring of community,” said Sylvia. “My family is proud to be part of the Canyon Creek community knowing we are helping make a meaningful impact during a time of great need.”
