Outdoor Playground Delights Mary Immaculate Community

A cleaner and safer playground has parents and students at Mary Immaculate Catholic School smiling these days after years of having to repeatedly clean new shoes from the previous dark surface that turned white sneakers black. Thanks to a Catholic Foundation grant, a colorful and durable new surface makes play time all the more enjoyable at the school.

When children played on the old outdoor playground at Mary Immaculate Catholic School, they came home with dirty black shoes created by the dark mulch that once served as the dark surface. During Spring Break 2022, the mulch was removed and replaced with a new layer of dirt and gravel on which a textured and rubbery dark surface was leveled and layered by hand.

The colorful and durable new surface, made possible by a grant from The Catholic Foundation, not only thrilled the students but the MIS parents who no longer have to clean or replace their children’s shoes so often.
