St. Joseph Catholic School’s Beverly Melian Inspires Students, Co-workers As Newest Work Of Heart Honoree


Mrs. Beverly Melian, a middle school literature teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School in Richardson, has  worked in the Catholic school system for 12 years.

As a member of the school’s Guidance department, she works with students from all grades by providing mental and educational resources.

On Feb. 5, she became the newest recipient of The Catholic Foundation’s Work Of Heart Award.

In her nomination, many wonderful things were shared about Melian who attended Catholic school as a youth. Here are just a few of the compliments:

“Mrs. Melian has a very compassionate, sympathetic heart. Her sweet, sensitive, caring nature encourages students to trust and confide in her.”

“Mrs. Melian possess a skill that enables her to inspire all students, especially those that are struggling. She will often meet before or after school to explain, reteach or clarify any concepts that are difficult for students to grasp.”

“She will research additional ways to teach something that may be better for a student who needs additional help, and presents it in a way that meets that student’s particular learning style. This approach enables all students to experience success in the classroom.”

“Listening intently, without judgement, students feel comfortable by her respect, courtesy and love that she demonstrates to them. As one student shared, ‘Mrs. Melian has such an uplifting attitude, she inspires me to be like her.’”
